The brethren at Brant Lodge have decided that they want to get into the age of the world wide web by launching a website that has web log (“blog”) capabilities so we can:
- Post photos of lodge events
- Post masonic education, such as papers, presentations etc
- Chronicle special occasions such as awarding the Lewis Stone or 25-year-pin etc
- Post the Lodge tracing board for Officers
- Post monthly summons and list upcoming events for each Masonic year
We decided on WordPress as a website and weblog framework because:
- It is supported by thousands of “themes” so choosing layout etc is easy
- It is open source and easily installed on a server
- It is easy to backup and move to another server in the event of an ISP change
- It enables “Page” Creation and pages can be organized in a hierarchy
- It enables “Posts” which are news items that can be arranged on Pages and within “Categories”
All in all, we’re looking forward to going through the process of getting dispensation from Grand Lodge to launch the site with some content and begin documenting our Lodge activities in a new way for visitors from all over Earth.
